Dr.
Chandrasekar Chikkamuniyappa said “We
wanted to take a moment to extend our most sincere thanks for choosing us in
two award winning categories & The award distinguishes our hospitals and me
as one with a real commitment to reach our Mission and Vision in highest
potential. This award is a beautiful way to spread our message to the
world.Once again Thank you so much; we will do our best to represent our
hospital according to the standards this award represents.”. Dr Chandrasekhar
further stated that “Healthcare reforms in India need
significant experimentation and innovation to determine what would work, we
cannot really look at other country's models as our situation, scenario and
problems are unique to us. Nowhere in the world is a country with a billion
people with an urgent need for quality healthcare. We have limited resources, a
fragmented delivery system with a huge variation in practises and guidelines
across board, loss of public trust in healthcare providers. Infact India has very limited public funding
for healthcare for a country with a huge disease burden.”
India wants to obtain universal health coverage
by 2022. India aspiring to be the next big super power definitely needs to ramp
up the healthcare system by enforcing several reforms keeping the following in
mind:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->There is an urgent need to bring back patient focussed care back to centre
stage
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->Innovation, community participation, public
private partnership(PPP) model, most
essential at the moment
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->State owned secondary and tertiary level care
hospitals must either be privatized/outsourced or at least be managed by PPP
model, however providing free/subsidized care for the poor must be continued at
these facilities.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->Greater Insurance penetration, State sponsored micro and macro health
insurance systems can help to a great extent.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->Cost transparency, information transparency
along with awareness creation and health education of the masses can certainly
help create a new health care revolution
in India.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->Medical Tourism must help hospitals cross
subsidize our own patients.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->Whatever it is providing quality care to 1.2+
billion people is going to be a challenge in any case. As there is no such
example anywhere in the world, the innovative solutions have to stem out of our
community & Country.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->Charity has to become part and parcel of every
healthcare establishment, As much as 50 % of the care provided must as free for
the poor. At the same time we must remember that it is not just the ‘Haves’ and
‘have not’s’ but there is a huge population of “does not have enough” who will
need subsidized treatments
<!--[if !supportLists]-->·
<!--[endif]-->“Stay
In India” or “Back To India” should become the slogan for the next decade,
All the doctors, nurses, paramedical personnel must be inspired to Stay in
India or come back to India.

The
Story of PEOPLETREE HOSPITALS is
quite a fascinating one – A group of doctors (friends from college days) come
together and dream of a hospital that is purely patient focused, doctor driven
and peer respected. This small group had one thing in common – they were all
from humble middle class backgrounds with extra-ordinary skill sets; trained in
some of the best hospitals across the globe and all hungry to transform the
current health care situation. Their dream required lots of money which they
never had! They left their jobs and dared to venture. Their sheer conviction
and commitment, made a plausibly impossible task possible. Today PEOPLE TREE
Hospitals is a reality.
Here
are some statistics - Total Number of patients seen is over 27000 within 8
months of full operations - Current average foot falls per day is over 200
patients achieved in Oct ‘14. - Crossed 100 In patients (IPD) discharged in
April (within 2 full months of operations)- 141% growth in IPD patients
discharged in Oct ‘14 vis-à-vis Apr ‘14. -Average month on month growth of
19.4%in the last 7 months. But probably the most positive reinforcement is in
the feedback from patients about the unique treatment experience the hospital
offers. PEOPLE TREE Friends say that this is just a proof of concept, once this
project becomes successful and sustainable – the vision is to spread across
tier two cities to make quality health care accessible & affordable to each
& every one. Their model of creating an Infosys in Healthcare by making
everyone a stake holder in the company is probably the right model for our
country. Health Care Transformation has indeed begun!
The PEOPLE TREE
Foundation
(www.peopletreefoundation.in) –PEOPLE TREE friends did not stop at creating a
world class healthcare facility, but quickly realized that if we ever have to
touch move and inspire a billion People by providing quality Health, Education
& Health Education, there has to be a charitable angle to it. Hence came
the PEOPLE TREE Foundation, a unique non-profit organization committed to
realize the dream of a disease and disability free India. The Foundation aims to provide services
spanning the fields of Health, education & Health Education. This Charity
wing has recently launched its most ambitious ‘PEOPLE TOUCH’ Program through
which 100 complex surgeries will be done completely free of cost for 100 poor
and deserving patients in 100 days. The
estimated cost of these surgeries is approximately one crore rupees. If this
becomes successful they hope to extend it to conduct free surgeries every day
and some day in the future they wish to conduct 50% of the surgeries for free
on a perpetual basis. The foundation also supporting free education or poor
children.
