The web is an ever-changing environment and it can sometimes to be difficult to keep up with the latest trends and changes. If your business depends on the internet (which nearly all do these days) it is important you and your company use and are  aware of the latest trends in website design. Here are some of the biggest things to be looking for online in the coming the months.

Mobile First
Mobile is no longer just the future, mobile is the present. The biggest trend it web development and design is acknowledging that a large chunk (often the bulk) of your clients will be visiting your site on a smartphone, tablet, or even a smart watch. Designing a website to be “Mobile First” means that the technology and user experience is design to scale, starting with a small screen all the way up to large monitor. Mobile users no longer (nor should they) expect a “less than” experience when compared to desktop users. A modern website needs to make the most of the device it is on, this means designing for the screen size, screen ratio, and user input. Mobile first web design is one of the latest web trends you and your company need to be aware of.

Google Material Design
The biggest buzzword in web design lately is “Google Material Design.”  Google recently released their idea of how and where design should be headed. This is a set of rules Google will follow and is encouraging the rest of the web to follow as well. These set of web design rules include using lighting and movement to mimic real life physics. It also calls for bold colors they are clearly indefinably.  Most importantly Google Material Design emphasizes meaning over style. While we all admit Google’s design look nice, at the end of the day it is how they work that is important and that is what Material Design does. Google Material Design is an important web trend to know as it can help you engage with your clients and customers on a more meaningful and positive level.

While you may not have the time to stay up to date on all web trends, it is important for nearly all levels of business to understand what is going on in web technology and where it is headed. Having this information will help inform decisions for your company and brand. Knowing the latest web trends will also be crucial in making decisions regarding your current website and future web projects. By being up with the online web trends you can ensure your brand, company, and organization are giving you customers the best possible experience and building brand loyalty. So be sure you consider the tenants of Google Material Design as well as mobile first methodology when working on your institution’s web projects. Remember there are plenty of experts on these subjects if you need assistance but it is always best to do your homework before calling in the professionals.
