So you are ready to do a Home shifting and preparing
yourself for it. Home shifting can be real simple if you do a proper planning
before actually shifting your home. Here is the 5-point checklist for you to
help you prepare well and shift your home smoothly.
Prepare Your Family, Kids and Goods
You know we often think that if all your goods are shifted
properly then you are done, but only goods are not that you will be shifting.
When you shift your home, it means a lot. There is lots of emotion attached to
your old home and you must prepare your family and specially kids to feel
comfortable in your new home. You should ideally take your kids and family to
your new home and let them feel happy about the space if possible.
This first part may be subjective to your own decision; this
second part is kind of mandatory. Prepare a list of goods that you will be
shifting. There would be some un-used items, leave them, there are some useful
items but cost of transporting them is almost equivalent to purchasing a new
one, leave them. All I am trying to say is prepare a list of goods that you
want to shift. This list will help you hire packers and movers and based on
this you can even plan how to pack them well in your new home.
Hire Packers and Movers and Schedule Your Packing
Next step is to hire Packers and Movers who can help you
with the shifting. When Hiring packers and movers, make sure to talk to a few company,
do good negotiation, have everything in written (estimates), ensure there is no
hidden costs and most importantly that they have their branch network at both
places.
Once you have a Packers and Movers company finalized, give
them advance and schedule the date of packing, transporting, reaching the
destination, unloading etc. Keep in touch with them and remind them in one day
in advance about your packing to ensure everything go as per the schedule.
Carry Valuable possessions and important documents with yourself
No matter how carefully your packers and movers is going to
handle everything, but there are certain things that you should always carry
with yourself like jewelries, your passport, ration card, pan cards and other
valuable documents/agreements etc.
Documentation and other Local things to do
Make sure to start updating your correspondence address etc
as per your schedule. Make payments to the local suppliers or service guys like
milk supplier, newspaper vendors, dry cleaners and laundry services etc.
Before leaving your home, make sure to clean your old house
because some one else may come here to stay and ensure to leave the keys with
some one who is going to take care of the property or to the landlord if it’s a
rented apartment/flat.
Arrangements of General Utility goods
Arrange usual utility supplies like water, gas, and
electricity in your new home. Most likely you have already done that, but if
not, please do so.
Check and ensure that your new home is clean and all
amenities are available. You should also have keys with you.
Hope these small little tips will be of great help to you
while you shift your home. Feel free to share your experience and other ideas I
might have left.
