There is a saying in bureaucratic circles – the good boys – who follow the rules get the boot (punished) while the bad boys (who bend backwards to help their political masters break the rules) have all the fun. This is exactly what is happening in Manipur.
Amitabh Singh Arambam a decorated Sub-Inspector– working in the Special Investigation Team and Special Intelligence Unit in Manipur seems to be paying the price for his honesty and straight-forwardness.
Arambam stirred the hornet’s nest when he exposed a series of drug deals involving influential people and politicians in Manipur in 2012. He was one of the officers who stopped a huge consignment of drugs at the Imphal Airport worth around Rs 24 crore. The skeletons from the cupboard revealed the involvement of the Army then PRO Lt-Col Ajay Chaudhary and senior Manipur Cabinet Ministers.
Though later decorated with DG’s Commendation on 19 October 2013 and CM’s Gallantry Award on 15 August 2014 in Manipur, since that day he became marked man for the high profile men behind the flourishing drug syndicate in the state.
